Welcome to the Minnehaha County Highway Department (MCHD)! Our mission is to provide a safe, efficient, and reliable highway infrastructure system. Learn more about our Department’s Mission, Vision, Goals and Values.

The MCHD is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of approximately 200 bridges and 347 miles of roadway. The Department is divided into six sections:
   

  • Administration - provides support and direction for all Department services
  • Road Maintenance - plows, paves, patches, replaces culverts, and mows all County roads
  • Bridge and Sign Maintenance - completes bridge deck repair, deck sealing, rail painting, scour protection, channel clearing, sign replacements, sign surveys, and traffic counts
  • Engineering - conducts traffic studies, issues permits, administers the County’s pavement management program, designs and provides project administration of highway improvement projects
  • Noxious Weeds and Pest Control - sprays County right-of-way for noxious weeds and performs inspections of private property upon receiving complaints from the public
  • Fleet Maintenance - maintains over 300 pieces of heavy equipment, small equipment, and other motor vehicles for the Department
