The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office issues concealed pistol permits to residents of the county after completing the necessary application paperwork and passing a background check.
Note: South Dakota law states that the applicant must have physically resided in and is a resident of the county where the application is being made for at least thirty days immediately preceding the date of the application.
The 2 page application must be submitted to our office before the background check can be done. Our office hours are Monday-Friday 8am - 5pm.
We will fax page 2 of the application to HSC for you, please do not do this yourself.
After 1 week for the background check on a regular permit, applicants who pass the required background check can return to our office, and receive their temporary permit. The enhanced and gold background checks take a little bit longer as the applicant’s fingerprints are sent to Pierre for the background check. For all permits, the actual permit card will come from the Secretary of State in Pierre within 30 days.
Currently, there are 4 types of concealed pistol permits available:
Regular:
Gold Card Permit:
Enhanced Permit:
Restricted Enhanced Permit:
